As Phuket has become more popular with both tourists and long term residents, land values have dramatically increased and consequently more and more apartments have been built. Whilst not as private as your own villa often people prefer apartments for several reasons:
For the same location and space apartments are normally cheaper to rent
Often better leisure facilities e.g. big communual swimming pools, on site cafe, gym, tennis courts, barbeque areas
More sociable - meet other visitors in the communual areas such as the swimming pools or tennis courts. Children also often find new play mates
A great way to go on holiday with other families whilst maintaining your own privacy
The size, location and facilities offered vary enormously and so of course does the price. Similar to renting a villa, it is worth checking with the owner what services are available either as part of or in additon to the rental charges. Typically an apartment owner or the apartment management company will provide a daily or weekly maid service, airport pick up and drop off and information on how to book excursions and recommendations for places to go.
